Nabatieh strikes mark ‘dangerous escalation,’ Lebanon’s president says

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described renewed Israeli attacks on Nabatieh and surrounding towns as a “dangerous escalation,” saying the strikes killed civilians and caused extensive damage.

Aoun said the attacks damaged the Finance Ministry building and destroyed Ghandour Hospital. He argued that the strikes went beyond repeated violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement and the framework agreement by targeting Lebanese state institutions and public-service facilities.

The president said the attacks also struck hospitals and health centers that serve citizens in their daily lives. He linked the damage to the Finance Ministry to an earlier attack on a State Security facility that killed several people.

Aoun said the pattern showed that the attacks extended beyond alleged military targets to civilian government institutions and health facilities. He held Israel fully responsible for the continued escalation and called on the United States and the international community to act urgently to halt the violations.
