NABTEB begins technical college placement exercise nationwide

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has initiated the nationwide exercise for selecting and placing qualified candidates into state and technical colleges for the year 2026. This process is a crucial step in the admission cycle, bridging the gap between examination and enrollment.

Out of 15,290 candidates who registered for the National Common Entrance Examination, 13,848 took the test. A significant majority, 10,426 candidates (75.29%), achieved scores of 50% or higher, with 5,708 (41.22%) scoring at least 70%. NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive, Dr. Mohammed Aminu, stressed that the placement will adhere to principles of merit, equity, accountability, transparency, and the Federal Character Principle, ensuring fair and objective selection.

Today’s exercise marks one of the most critical stages in the admission process into our Technical Colleges. It is the bridge between assessment and admission, ensuring that qualified candidates who sat for the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination are fairly, transparently and appropriately placed in accordance with the admission guidelines approved by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Dr. Aminu highlighted NABTEB's commitment to enhancing the examination process through technological advancements. These include the deployment of computer-based testing, improved digital result processing, and an AI-powered aptitude placement system. He urged the selection committee to perform their duties with integrity and impartiality, emphasizing that the success of the entrance examination is only fully realized through a credible placement process.

NABTEB aims to rebrand technical colleges as centers for innovation and entrepreneurship, moving away from the perception of them being a "second choice" option. Dr. Aminu underscored the importance of strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to cultivate skilled technicians and artisans essential for Nigeria's industrialization and economic diversification. He commended the Minister of Education for championing reforms in technical education and called for increased advocacy and encouragement for young Nigerians to pursue vocational skills.
