NAICOM, NIA Advocate Deeper Collaboration to Deepen Insurance Growth

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) have renewed their call for enhanced collaboration with the media, specifically through the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE).

Industry leaders emphasized that a robust partnership with journalists is vital for deepening insurance penetration, fostering public trust, and accelerating ongoing reforms within the insurance sector. These points were highlighted during the investiture ceremony for NAIPE's newly elected executives in Lagos.

Commissioner for Insurance and CEO of NAICOM, Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, stressed the indispensable role of sustained collaboration among regulators, operators, and the media in building a stronger, more inclusive insurance industry. He encouraged insurance journalists to maintain professionalism and integrity, noting that both the insurance and pension sectors rely heavily on public trust. Omosehin also challenged NAIPE members to engage in more interpretative journalism to simplify complex insurance concepts for the public.

Representing the NIA, Chairperson Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, through Director-General/CEO Mrs. Bola Odukale, expressed confidence that the new NAIPE leadership would further strengthen media-industry ties. Both regulatory and industry bodies view effective communication, supported by the media, as essential for achieving NAICOM's developmental agenda, which focuses on strengthening regulation, expanding market reach, and enhancing consumer protection.
