Nantou Bamboo Expo in July Offers Immersive Bamboo Art Journey

Nantou County, a major bamboo-producing region in Taiwan, is set to host the "2026 Taiwan Bamboo Expo" Nantou exhibition area, featuring a "Bamboo Art Journey" designed to immerse visitors in bamboo culture. The event, organized by the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's Nantou Branch, invites the public to explore bamboo forests, meet artisans, visit craft villages, and enjoy bamboo-themed cuisine.

The "Bamboo Art Journey" includes a limited-edition map guiding visitors to over 80 exhibition spaces and shops, featuring bamboo craft displays, unique bamboo workshops, master artisans, and restaurants. Participants can collect stamps to redeem limited-edition "bamboo" dolls or cups. The event aims to showcase bamboo's potential in net-zero transition, circular economy, and green design, illustrating its role beyond just a plant to become an extension of local memory and lifestyle aesthetics.

Exclusive workshops offer hands-on experiences, such as creating bamboo lamps with Dr. Bao-Qing Zhu, learning traditional bamboo chair making at Riyuewan Bamboo Art, or crafting healing rain sticks at Bao-Hong Bamboo Art Studio. Visitors can witness how artisans transform bamboo into everyday objects and purchase unique crafts as souvenirs. Additionally, two "Bamboo Markets" will be held on July 11 and 18 in Caotun and Zhushan, respectively, gathering local bamboo brands, youth creative teams, and green restaurants.

These markets will feature bamboo-themed dishes like bamboo charcoal panna cotta and bamboo shoot spring rolls, offering a culinary journey from the bamboo forest to the table. The event underscores Nantou's century-old landscape shaped by bamboo, encouraging a slow travel experience to appreciate its multifaceted role in culture, industry, and sustainable living.
