Nantou County Wins Multiple Accolades at Taiwan Sustainable Tourism Awards

Nantou County, a popular summer retreat in Taiwan, has garnered significant recognition at the second Taiwan Sustainable Tourism Awards, securing nine accolades. The county government itself received a bronze award for 'Sustainable Tourism Destination,' underscoring its commitment to eco-friendly tourism development.

Among the specific attractions honored, the Xitou Nature Education Area, known for its lush forests and therapeutic environment, was awarded for its tourism experience. Additionally, the Half Mountain Dream Factory received an award for its contributions to sustainable tourism education and promotion. These awards highlight Nantou's success in leveraging its natural assets, including mountains, forests, lakes, and rich biodiversity, for sustainable development.

The Nantou County Government has established a dedicated unit to oversee tourism transformation and sustainable governance, branding its efforts under 'Nantou Sustainable Tourism Action' (NSTC). This initiative aims to embed sustainability principles deeply within the county's tourism sector. The county's efforts, a result of public-private collaboration, have culminated in these awards, validating its focus on supporting local industries, respecting indigenous cultures, and preserving the natural environment.

Further recognition included the Xitou Fuhua Resort and Sun Moon Lake Fleur de Chine Hotel, both receiving the Gold Award for Sustainable Hospitality. Wu Yirui, chairman of Shude Enterprise, was honored with the Outstanding Figure in Sustainable Tourism award for his work with the Half Mountain Dream Factory, which integrates green architecture, sustainability education, and innovative tourism. The Cai Mian Ju Textile Cultural Hall in Zhushan also won the Sustainable Factory Award for its industry tours and hands-on experiences, demonstrating how traditional industries can innovate for sustainability.

To further promote sustainable travel, Nantou County plans to distribute sustainable tourism guides and promote nine "net-zero" travel routes. These efforts aim to help visitors integrate sustainable practices into their travel and daily lives, making sustainability an integral part of the travel experience in Nantou.
