Nantou's Jiji Township Sees High Claim Rate for NT$600 Cash Handout

Jiji Township in Nantou County has concluded its NT$600 cash handout initiative, a measure designed to invigorate local consumption and bolster the township's economy. The program, which ran until April 24, saw a robust participation rate, with 8,938 residents successfully claiming their subsidies. This represents an 89.38% claim rate, falling just short of the 90% target.

Township Mayor Wu Ta-tsun expressed optimism about the initiative's impact, noting that the near 90% claim rate indicates significant engagement from the community. He believes that putting cash directly into the hands of residents will effectively stimulate spending within Jiji, thereby contributing to the overall economic vitality of the township. The remaining NT$620,000 in unclaimed funds will be remitted to the public treasury, where it can be allocated to other public works projects.

While the majority of eligible residents participated, 1,043 individuals did not claim their NT$600. Mayor Wu suggested that many of these may reside abroad or in distant parts of Taiwan, making the trip impractical for the modest sum. Others might be financially comfortable and prefer the funds to be used for public infrastructure, demonstrating a civic-minded approach. Regardless of the reasons, the township administration made concerted efforts to notify all eligible residents through various community channels.
