National Dance Festival to Take Over Venues Across Panama

Dance will take over stages across Panama from Sept. 1 to 15, as the Ministry of Culture presents the National Dance Festival with seven local companies and collectives.

The 15-day program includes 10 performances covering contemporary dance, flamenco, acrobatic dance, performance art and experimental forms. Shows will be held at the Teatro Áurea “Baby” Torrijos in the City of Arts, Teatro Ateneo in the City of Knowledge, Teatro Balboa and the Center for Art and Culture of Colón.

Among the featured works is “Flamenco de Lorca,” by Flamenco Panamá, scheduled for Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. at Teatro Ateneo. The performance will bring flamenco’s force and expressiveness to the stage. On Sept. 5, “Geometría de lo Invisible,” by La Tribu Performance and the National Theater Board, will combine movement and creation in a performance accompanied by a workshop in the lobby of Teatro Beby Torrijos.

The festival will also travel to Colón with “AcroDivertimento,” by the Panamanian acrobatic dance company Acrosociety, on Sept. 7. Other works include “El Cuerpo que Habitamos” by Colectivo E-Kléctico, “DE/MI, DERMIS” by Stephanie Lee, based on an idea by Carla Mabel Lozano, and “1MM²” by WA·TÁA Contemporary Dance Company.

Several performances, including “Flamenco de Lorca” and “El Cuerpo que Habitamos,” will be free. Tickets for “AcroDivertimento,” “DE/MI, DERMIS” and “1MM²” will cost between B/.5.00 and B/.10.00. Reservations and tickets will be available through the contacts listed for each show and at the venues’ box offices. The ministry says the festival aims to strengthen the circulation of performing arts and create more opportunities for national artists to meet diverse audiences.
