France will hold a national tribute for Edgar Morin, the renowned sociologist and philosopher, on Wednesday at Les Invalides in Paris. Morin, a towering figure in French intellectual and media circles and a respected voice on the left, died on May 29 at the age of 104.

It will take place in the Dôme courtyard of Les Invalides, a departure from tradition which usually uses the main courtyard, due to ongoing construction work. His wife, Sabah Abouessalam Morin, stated in a message that "until his last days, Edgar Morin remained attentive to the world, to others, and to the major human issues that fueled his thinking." President Macron described Morin as "humanism personified" and extended the nation's condolences to his family.
