Native doctor arrested as three children found dead in Anambra home

A woman identified as a native doctor has been arrested in Anambra State, Nigeria, after the bodies of three children were discovered at her residence. The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that four children were found unconscious at the premises in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, on Wednesday. Three of the children were later pronounced dead by doctors, while the fourth is in critical condition and receiving medical attention.

The discovery, made in the early hours of Wednesday, has caused panic within the community. Residents reported that the children, aged between six and 15 years, were not identified, and the exact circumstances leading to their deaths remain unknown. The woman, who also keeps livestock, was taken into custody by police in collaboration with community leaders.

Four children were found unconscious in the woman’s residence. While three of them were already lifeless as of the time they were discovered, the fourth, who was still breathing, was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Videos circulating on social media show police and community leaders inspecting the premises. The woman was seen leading security teams through various parts of her compound, including shrines and residential areas, as onlookers watched from a distance. The remains of the deceased children have been moved to a mortuary.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Police Command stated that the suspect is in custody and the State Criminal Investigation Department will take over the investigation. The command expressed profound sadness over the incident and confirmed that the rescue team rushed the victims to a hospital, where three were certified dead.
