Navegantes del Magallanes signs Edgardo Rivera as quality control coach

The Navegantes del Magallanes have bolstered their coaching staff by signing Edgardo Rivera as a quality control coach. Rivera, a 32-year-old former outfielder who played in the Milwaukee Brewers' minor league system, will join the team for the 2026-2027 Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) season.

This represents a lot for me. I am very grateful to God, to the Magallanes organization, and to leader Yadier Molina for giving me the opportunity to get to know the country, the league, and represent the team with the most tradition in Venezuela.

Rivera currently serves as a development coach for the Seattle Mariners, working with their Class A Advanced affiliate. His prior experience includes time with the New York Mets' organization. This new role marks a significant opportunity for him to engage with a new league and a team steeped in Venezuelan baseball tradition.

Rivera's connection with Magallanes manager Yadier Molina is strong, having previously been part of Molina's coaching staff for Criollos de Caguas in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League. He also contributed to Puerto Rico's national team staff during the recent World Baseball Classic. Rivera is eager to work towards a championship for Magallanes, acknowledging the team's storied rivalry with Caracas.

Within the team I am part of, I have (Luis) Suisbel and he has told me many good things about the team, what the Magallanes jersey represents and what it means to its fans and Venezuelan baseball. I have also heard about the great rivalry with Caracas. I know it is going to be an unforgettable experience and I am crazy for the moment to arrive to be there and work for the team to achieve the back-to-back championship.
