Naver, Nvidia, Brookfield Invest $10 Billion in South Korean AI Infrastructure

South Korean tech giant Naver, alongside global semiconductor leader Nvidia and investment firm Brookfield, is committing a substantial $10 billion to bolster South Korea's national artificial intelligence infrastructure. This significant investment is poised to accelerate the development and expansion of AI capabilities within the country.

The core of this initiative involves a major upgrade to the AI factory currently under construction at Naver's Sejong data center. The facility's capacity is set to increase dramatically, from its initial planned 55 megawatts (MW) to 200 MW by the year 2028. This expansion is crucial for supporting the growing demands of AI computation and data processing.

Looking further ahead, the consortium has outlined an ambitious long-term vision to establish a 1-gigawatt (GW) scale sovereign AI infrastructure. This strategic move aims to ensure South Korea's self-sufficiency and leadership in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Nvidia announced the investment details on July 25th (Korean time) from San Francisco, signaling the global significance of this partnership and its implications for the future of AI development in South Korea.
