Nawat Worries About Rain, Says Miss Grand International 2027 Events in Vietnam Will Not Be Held Outdoors

Miss Grand International 2027 will take place in Vietnam, but its major events will not be held outdoors. President Nawat Itsaragrisil said recent weather developments affecting Miss World 2026 had made him wary of outdoor plans.

“Whatever happens, we will not choose an outdoor format for important events,” Nawat said during a livestream. He said Vietnam had many attractive, modern halls, but some had high ceilings that still did not make it easy to install the rigging, lighting and technical equipment required for a large-scale stage.

Nawat also pointed to the height of indoor spaces as a major planning issue. He compared some existing venues with exhibition halls and said a stage built to Miss Grand International’s specifications could face height restrictions, affecting the overall design.

Fans debated whether the indoor or outdoor format should be decided jointly by the international organizers and the host country. Many supported limiting outdoor events because indoor venues offer greater control over rain, wind, sound, lighting and the audience experience. Others noted that the pageant often takes place late in the year, when rain may be less likely.

Vietnam has previously hosted Miss Grand International in 2017 and 2023. The 2027 competition is planned for September or October. Organizers are preparing plans for contestants from numerous countries and territories to visit notable heritage areas and showcase Vietnam’s natural beauty, culture and people. The reigning titleholder is Emma Mary Tiglao of the Philippines.
