Nazarbayev underwent spinal surgery

Former Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev cast his vote from home, exercising his right due to recent spinal surgery and ongoing health concerns. The announcement was made via a statement on the official website of the first president.

Kazakhstan is currently holding elections for deputies to the Kurultai, the country's legislative body. Voting commenced today, August 23, and will conclude at 8:00 PM local time. Citizens who have reached the age of 18 by election day are eligible to participate, choosing the political party they wish to support.

A total of 10,423 polling stations have been prepared across the country, including early-opening stations in Seoul and Tokyo for citizens abroad. The Central Election Commission (CEC) will begin the vote count once polling stations close and will summarize the results at a special meeting. The final results must be officially published in the media no later than seven days after the vote, by August 30, 2026.
