Nazareth man arrested for planning to attack Itamar Ben-Gvir, recruiting terrorists for Hamas

Israeli security forces have arrested a 29-year-old Israeli citizen from Nazareth on suspicion of promoting terrorist activity and planning to harm National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and Israel Police announced the arrest on Tuesday.

An investigation revealed that the suspect, Muhammad Awad, had contacted the Hamas terrorist organization. His aim was to join the group and secure resources to carry out terrorist activities, according to authorities.

The Shin Bet and Israel Police said they view any involvement by Israeli citizens in activity that endangers the security of the state and its citizens with the utmost severity.

The Northern District Attorney’s Office has submitted a prosecutor’s declaration to the Nof HaGalil, Nazareth Magistrate’s Court. This action precedes the filing of a formal indictment against Awad.

Both the Shin Bet and Israel Police emphasized their zero-tolerance approach to Israeli citizens involved in activities that endanger the state's security. They vowed to use all available means to bring those involved to justice.
