NBA: Former Top Prospect Sochan Signs One-Year Deal with Trail Blazers

Forward Jeremy Sochan is set to join the Portland Trail Blazers on a one-year deal, according to reports from ESPN's Shams Charania. The 23-year-old, who entered the league as the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs, brings a defensive presence and has averaged over 11 points per game throughout his career.

Sochan spent his first three seasons with the Spurs, where his defensive capabilities were a highlight. However, a lack of consistent offensive breakthrough led to him being gradually moved out of the team's long-term plans. In February of this year, Sochan was waived by the Spurs and subsequently joined the New York Knicks.

Last season, Sochan played in 28 games for the Spurs, averaging 4.1 points in 12.8 minutes. His role diminished further with the Knicks, where he saw even less playing time, averaging 2.8 points in 6.9 minutes per game. Despite the limited role, he was part of the Knicks team that reached the NBA Finals, meaning he will receive a championship ring before the Finals even officially concluded against his former team, the Spurs.

Now, Sochan heads to Portland, a team rich in backcourt talent, where he is expected to provide additional depth in the frontcourt alongside players like Deni Avdija and Toumani Camara. Over his four-year NBA career, Sochan has appeared in 228 games, starting 149, and has averaged 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, with a 47.0% field goal percentage and a 28.6% three-point percentage.
