NBA player Alperen Şengün aims to develop young talent for Turkish national team

Young NBA star Alperen Şengün, currently playing for the Houston Rockets, was honored with the "Turkey's Value Creators Award" at Bahçeşehir University's (BAU) traditional ceremony.

Following the award presentation, Şengün attended an exhibition of calligraphy and illumination art. He received a framed artwork featuring verses from the Quran as a gift. Şengün shared his enthusiasm for the event, stating, "It's a privilege to be here. They welcomed us so beautifully. I haven't done something like this before, but it opened my eyes."

Şengün emphasized his deep connection to his roots and his desire to give back. "You know my love for the youth, my family, my country. It's nice to do things like this, hopefully, we can do more beautiful things," he said. He expressed a particular interest in visiting Bandırma, his hometown, this summer to connect with former coaches and inspire young people.

Looking ahead, Şengün articulated his ambition to nurture the next generation of Turkish basketball talent. "Seeing more young people in the NBA and helping them, developing better players for our national team is one of my biggest goals," he stated. He also confirmed his readiness for the upcoming 2027 World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Switzerland, expressing confidence in the team's preparation and determination to win.
