NBA three-team trade: Thunder send Dort to Hawks, Mavericks acquire Risacher

A significant three-team trade has reshaped rosters in the NBA, involving the Oklahoma City Thunder, Atlanta Hawks, and Dallas Mavericks. According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Thunder have sent defensive specialist Luguentz Dort to the Hawks.

Dort, a 27-year-old player previously selected to the All-Defensive First Team, moves to Atlanta as part of the deal. In return, the Thunder received three future second-round draft picks and a $17 million trade exception. The Hawks also acquired young guard Ryan Nembhard from Oklahoma City.

The Dallas Mavericks were active in the trade, successfully acquiring the highly touted 2024 draft prospect Zaccharie Risacher from the Hawks. This move signals a strategic shift for the Mavericks as they look to rebuild their team around new head coach Dusty May.

This trade is part of a larger offseason strategy for the Thunder, who have also moved on players like Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins. These moves have not only accumulated seven second-round picks but also significantly reduced the team's payroll, saving an estimated $200 million in luxury tax and salary expenses for the upcoming season. Dort is expected to form a formidable defensive unit in Atlanta alongside Dyson Daniels and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
