NBTE approves 23 new programmes for Akwa Ibom poly

The Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, located in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has received approval for 23 new academic programmes from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). This expansion significantly increases the institution's offerings, bringing the total number of programmes to 44. The newly accredited courses are slated to begin in the 2026/2027 academic session and will operate on an initial two-year basis.

According to a statement from the institution's media unit, the approval was formally communicated in a letter signed by Ayo Aroge, Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes, on behalf of the NBTE's Executive Secretary. The statement highlighted these new accreditations as a significant achievement, reflecting positively on the leadership of the rector, Mrs. Edumma Essien.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved an additional 23 new programmes for the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Full accreditation for these programmes will be subject to a quality assurance visit by the NBTE scheduled for the end of September 2028. The list of newly approved programmes spans various fields, including National Diploma (ND) courses such as Surveying & Geo-informatics, Estate Management and Valuation, Building Technology, Petroleum Marketing & Business Studies, Crime Management, Artificial Intelligence, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Water Resources Engineering Technology, and Renewable Energy Engineering Technology.

Additionally, Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes have been introduced in areas like Science Laboratory Technology (with Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics with Electronics, and Environmental Biology options), Cyber Security and Data Protection, Electrical Electronics Engineering Technology (with Power & Machine, Electronics/Telecommunication, and Instrumentation and Control options), Computer Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Business Administration & Management, and Accountancy. The institution anticipates these new programmes will enhance its academic portfolio and attract more students.
