NDC declares party supremacy, approves code of conduct committee

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its commitment to reinforcing party supremacy and institutionalizing its structures following its National Executive Committee meeting. The party aims to build a strong and enduring institution, ensuring that all governments elected under its banner remain accountable to the party's framework.

The NDC is committed to building the party as a strong and enduring institution, with emphasis on party supremacy.

Key resolutions stipulate that government programs, policies, and appointments, excluding personal staff, must be made in consultation with the party structure. The NDC emphasized that individual members are expected to subordinate personal interests to the collective objectives of the organization, reiterating that "the party remains supreme."

The programs, policies, and appointments (except personal staff) of all governments elected on the platform of the party must be made in consultation with the party structure.

To streamline operations and ensure alignment, the NDC directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organizations must operate under the party's guidance and control, prohibiting parallel or independent functions. Furthermore, the party approved the development of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for its officials and candidates, establishing a committee led by the National Legal Adviser to create the necessary framework.

The party remains supreme, and members are expected to align their personal interests and agendas with those of the party.

In an effort to foster internal harmony, a National Reconciliation Committee has been inaugurated to engage and reconcile aggrieved members. The NDC stressed its identity as a long-term political institution rather than a vehicle for personal ambition, asserting that "total allegiance must be to the party and the national interest" for all candidates and aspirants. The party also pledged to enforce strict financial accountability among its officers and candidates.
