Nearly 4 in 10 flights delayed in France this summer: See the least punctual airlines

Summer travel in France is facing significant disruptions, with nearly 40% of flights departing from the country experiencing delays of at least 15 minutes between June 1 and July 20. This figure represents a three-point increase compared to the same period last year, according to a study by Flightright, a platform specializing in air passenger rights.

Tunisair, the Tunisian national airline, recorded the worst performance with 55.45% of its flights delayed. Nouvelair, another Tunisian carrier, followed closely with 52.69% of delayed flights, while Ireland's Aer Lingus completed the top three with 47.38% of its services running late. Budget airlines are also heavily impacted, with Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz Air all reporting over 43% of their flights delayed. These carriers, popular for sun destinations like Spain, Greece, and Italy, are contributing significantly to the summer travel chaos.

Several legacy airlines also feature in the top 10 least punctual carriers, including British Airways, TAP Portugal, and Air Algérie. Air France, despite operating the largest number of flights among the carriers studied (over 25,000 during the period), had a delay rate of 38.31%, a slight improvement from the previous year. The report notes that "in the midst of the summer peak, the trend illustrates the persistent difficulties in French air transport."

Conversely, Turkish Airlines emerged as the most punctual, with only 15.61% of its flights delayed, nearly 40 points less than Tunisair. Air Maroc and Volotea also showed better punctuality rates, with 18.30% and 26.30% of delays respectively. The study analyzed over 100,000 flights to compile its rankings.
