NECO releases 2026 BECE results

The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. A total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examinations, which were conducted across 12 subjects from April 20 to April 30, 2026.

Azeez Sani, the acting director of NECO's Information and Public Relations, confirmed the release in a statement on Thursday. The statement indicated that the Award Committee has approved dates for the 2026 BECE re-sit examination. Folake David, Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the examination process.

The result of the examination was released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

This examination is specifically for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in Mathematics or English Studies, or both.

The purpose of the re-sit examination is to allow affected candidates to remedy these deficiencies. Successfully passing the re-sit allows them to gain the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without the need to repeat an entire academic year.

The BECE is a crucial assessment conducted by NECO for students completing Nigeria's nine-year Basic Education program. It serves as a key gateway for admission and placement into senior secondary education.
