Neos Media Spokesperson: Constitutionalizing ORF Fee is 'Sensible'

Henrike Brandstötter, the Neos party's media spokesperson, has stated that enshrining the ORF contribution in the constitution would be a sensible move. She also indicated that there is potential for cost savings within the existing structure of ORF's regional studios.

Brandstötter outlined her party's vision for the new ORF law in an interview with Der Standard. She proposes that political parties should have only one mandate in an ORF audience council. Furthermore, she suggests reducing the number of foundation board members responsible for economic oversight from 35 to nine, who would then appoint the three executive directors.

A "Future Forum" organized by the Ministry of Media is scheduled for September to set the course for a new ORF law. Brandstötter shared her views on ORF's leadership, supervision, redefined mission, and financing during the interview.

She also raised questions about the value proposition for citizens paying the ORF contribution, stating, "ORF must explain: 'Why do I have to pay and what do I get for my money?'" Brandstötter believes that political influence within ORF should be reduced, and the organization should relinquish certain "privileges."
