Nepal begins earthquake home reconstruction in Jajarkot

Nearly three years after a devastating earthquake struck Jajarkot, Nepal, the formal reconstruction of permanent homes has commenced in Bheri Municipality. The initiative, launched on Sunday, brings renewed hope to families who have endured prolonged periods in temporary shelters.

The 'Zero-Cost Reconstruction Programme,' spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), aims to facilitate the rebuilding of homes and structures damaged by the November 3, 2023, earthquake. This program offers additional support and facilitation, with a focus on economically vulnerable families and those struggling to rebuild.

In the initial phase within Bheri Municipality, 188 homes have been identified for complete reconstruction. This includes 120 homes in Ward No. 1 and 68 in Ward No. 2. The process involves local governments identifying beneficiaries, with payments for completed homes channeled through the municipality to the recipients. Officials urge other local governments to expedite beneficiary selection to ensure the reconstruction process moves forward efficiently across all affected districts, including Salyan and Rukum West.
