Nepal Embassy in London to Install 3-Foot Buddha Statue

A three-foot-tall statue of Lord Shakyamuni Buddha is set to be installed at the Nepali Embassy in London on August 29. The installation is part of the Global Buddha Heritage Promotion Campaign, an initiative by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) International Coordination Council, in collaboration with NRNA NCC UK and the Buddha Foundation UK.

The campaign aims to promote Nepal’s cultural, spiritual, and tourism heritage internationally. The gold-coloured seated Buddha statue will symbolize Nepal, Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, and convey messages of peace, compassion, harmony, and non-violence, according to NRNA ICC spokesperson Somanath Sapkota.

This initiative is the first of 11 Buddha statues planned for installation at Nepali diplomatic missions worldwide this year. A statue is also slated for the new Nepali Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal. Additionally, preparations are underway for a 6.2-foot-tall, 160-kg Statue of Bodhisattva Siddhartha (Baby Buddha Statue) at The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Victoria, Australia.

Sapkota stated that the campaign seeks to advance cultural diplomacy, boost tourism, and enhance Nepal’s international identity, positioning Lumbini as a global hub for peace and spirituality.
