Nepal floods destroy over 90% of hydropower plant's upper facilities

A devastating flood in Nepal has ravaged the construction site of the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project, a venture led by Korea South East Power Co. (KOEN). Over 90% of the plant's upper facilities have been lost, and the base camp housing construction workers also sustained approximately 90% damage. The disaster has left nine South Koreans missing, prompting KOEN and Doosan Enerbility to establish emergency response teams.

KOEN's Head of New Growth Business, Yoon Jang-hyun, departed for Nepal to assess the situation and prioritize the safe return of their employees. The Nepalese tourism board reports a total of 403 missing people, including 341 foreigners, with at least 160 confirmed deaths nationwide.
