Nepal launches online consular attestation system, service to begin from August 17

Nepal has introduced a fully digital platform, the Nepal e-Attestation System (NEATS), to simplify and expedite the process of consular document authentication for its citizens worldwide. The system, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, enables applicants to submit requests, track their progress, and make payments online from anywhere.

Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal stated that the NEATS is a key step in the government's "Digital Nepal" vision, aiming to make public services more transparent and efficient. He highlighted the growing demand for consular services, driven by the increasing number of Nepalis traveling abroad for education and employment. In the last fiscal year alone, over 112,000 students obtained No Objection Certificates for overseas study, and around 400,000 Nepalis receive labor approvals annually.

The digital platform addresses the strain on the Ministry's Department of Consular Services caused by this rising demand. Previously, applicants often had to visit the department multiple times due to errors or missing documents. Under the new system, individuals will only need to visit for the final verification after their online application is approved and an appointment is scheduled. This change is expected to make the service faster, easier, and more predictable for users, reducing the need for long waits and repeated visits.
