Nepal Red Cross on standby for Rasuwa flood; blood stock sufficient

The Nepal Red Cross Society has placed itself on standby to address any potential medical needs arising from floods in Rasuwa, a district in Nepal. The organization is actively coordinating with hospitals and blood transfusion centers across various regions to ensure a swift response.

Pawan Kumar Gupta, director of the Nepal Red Cross Society’s blood bank, confirmed that the central blood bank in Kathmandu holds approximately 1,000 units of blood. He assured that transfusion centers in other districts also maintain adequate supplies. This preparedness includes close communication with health workers and trauma care units in the affected area.

While current blood stocks are sufficient, the Red Cross acknowledges that disaster situations can lead to a sudden increase in demand. Therefore, they are continuously monitoring hospital needs and blood requirements. The organization has also appealed to the public to continue donating blood regularly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining reserves for potential prolonged disaster scenarios. Coordination efforts are also underway with various voluntary blood donor societies and organizations to bolster collection.
