Nepal's Santoshi Shrestha wins bronze at World Athletics Continental Tour Silver 2026

Nepal's Santoshi Shrestha has achieved a historic bronze medal in the women's 5000-meter race at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver 2026, held in Bhubaneswar, India. Shrestha secured the third position with a time of 17 minutes 31.75 seconds.

The gold medal was won by Kenya's Diana Wanjah, who completed the race in 15 minutes 16.11 seconds, while India's Bharati claimed the silver medal with a time of 15 minutes 46.45 seconds.

This achievement is particularly significant as it marks Nepal's first medal at a World Athletics Silver-level competition. Shrestha is no stranger to setting records, already holding the national record in the 5000-meter event with a time of 16 minutes 36.61 seconds, which she set at the South Asian Athletics Championship in Ranchi, India, last October.

Shrestha is currently preparing for the upcoming 20th Asian Games in Japan. Her impressive performance in India adds to her collection of national records, which span multiple distances including the marathon, half marathon, 10,000m, 5,000m, and 1,500m events.
