NESREA Investigates Suspected Chemical Spill on Kaduna-Abuja Expressway

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has launched an investigation into a suspected chemical spill following an accident on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. The incident involved a heavy-duty truck that lost its contents, resulting in a white, foamy substance appearing at the scene.

A heavy-duty truck was involved in an accident leading to the spillage of its contents at the location.

A team from NESREA's Kaduna State Field Office, led by State Coordinator Mr. Hena Dangari Emmanuel, visited the location to gather preliminary information. They met with local police, the Federal Road Safety Corps commander, and community leaders to understand the situation. Initial findings confirm that the accident led to the spillage of the truck's contents.

To determine the nature of the substance and guide further actions, NESREA has collected samples of the foamy material, soil, and water from a nearby stream. These samples will undergo laboratory analysis. The agency emphasized the importance of these tests in identifying the substance and assessing any potential environmental or health risks.
