Netanyahu Accuses Iran of Attempting to Assassinate One of His Sons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his sons, though he provided no further specifics regarding the alleged incident. "Something incredible happened: Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill one of my sons," Netanyahu declared during an interview with Israel's Channel 14.

The accusation surfaced during a conversation about reports that the Shin Bet domestic security agency had refused to assign a security detail to Gadi Eisenkot, a former army chief who is currently in a close electoral race with Netanyahu ahead of the October 27 elections. Netanyahu voiced his support for continuous security protection for Eisenkot, describing it as essential rather than a luxury.

The Prime Minister has two sons and a daughter, and it remains unclear which son was allegedly targeted. His elder son, Yair, who is 35, has been living in Miami since early 2024, reportedly under Shin Bet protection. His extended stay in the U.S. has drawn controversy in Israel due to the cost of security measures borne by taxpayers. Some residents in South Florida have also expressed concerns that his presence might make the area a target for attacks by Israel's adversaries.

Shortly after Netanyahu's remarks, prominent Israeli journalist Amit Segal reported on his Telegram channel that the alleged assassination attempt had been known for months but was subject to a gag order. The report did not provide further details on the nature of the attempt or the identity of the son targeted.
