Netanyahu admits difficulty influencing Trump decisions on Iran, sources say

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confided to associates that Israel possesses little leverage to influence U.S. President Donald Trump's decision-making concerning Iran, according to two Israeli officials familiar with the private conversations.

These remarks emerge as the United States and Iran are in the process of negotiating a potential deal to end a war that began with joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes. Israel has reportedly been sidelined from these discussions aimed at reaching an initial agreement. Both Washington and Tehran have tempered expectations for an immediate breakthrough, with significant disagreements persisting over Iran's nuclear ambitions, the lifting of sanctions, and Israel's ongoing conflict in Lebanon against Hezbollah.

Netanyahu is reportedly insisting on Israel's right to continue operations against perceived threats on all fronts, including Lebanon. This condition could potentially jeopardize any agreement if Iran demands a complete cessation of Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon. One Israeli official involved in Netanyahu's private discussions indicated that the Prime Minister has voiced concerns about the memorandum of understanding currently under negotiation.

The proposed agreement, as described by a senior Trump administration official, would involve Iran opening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the U.S. lifting its naval blockade, with further negotiations on nuclear issues to follow.
