Netanyahu's AI campaign video mocking rivals, including a bereaved father, sparks outrage in Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ignited a firestorm of criticism with the release of an AI-generated video that mocks his political rivals and, controversially, the deceased son of a rival.

The video, intended to kick off his election campaign, features Netanyahu impersonating his rival Gadi Eisenkot, a former military chief, and also targets Ahmed Tibi, a leader of an Arab party.

Netanyahu's campaign team released the video, which uses artificial intelligence to mimic the voices and appearances of the politicians. The AI-generated content depicts Netanyahu making light of Eisenkot and Tibi. However, the inclusion of Eisenkot's son, who was killed fighting in Gaza, has drawn particular outrage.

Critics across the political spectrum have condemned the video. Many expressed disgust at the use of AI for political attacks and particularly at the insensitivity shown towards a father mourning his son. The incident has intensified scrutiny of Netanyahu's campaign tactics.
