Neuer misses Germany's final World Cup warm-up training

Manuel Neuer, Germany's veteran goalkeeper, will miss the national team's final World Cup warm-up match against the USA due to a calf injury. He did not join his fellow goalkeepers, including Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, and Jonas Urbig, for the team's final training session in Chicago. His participation in the World Cup opener on June 14 against Curaçao is now highly unlikely, pushing his comeback further out. Neuer's last appearance for the national team was in July 2024, after which he had announced his retirement but was recalled by coach Julian Nagelsmann for the World Cup. He had previously been substituted in a Bundesliga match in May with calf problems and missed the DFB-Pokal final. Coach Nagelsmann is expected to provide more details in a press conference. All 23 outfield players were present at the training. Neuer, who has played 124 times for Germany, is aiming for his fifth World Cup. He had been continuing his rehabilitation in America, with social media showing him practicing shots and enjoying walks by Lake Michigan.
