New Anambra CP assumes duty, pledges safe, secure environment

Nanna Ama officially took charge as the 36th Commissioner of Police for the Anambra State Police Command on Monday. His deployment follows a strategic redeployment approved by the Police Service Commission and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.

Ama succeeds AIG Ikioye Orutugu, who retired after being promoted from Commissioner of Police. Before his new assignment in Anambra, Ama served as the Commissioner of Police for Intelligence and Training at the Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters in Abuja. He also previously held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police within the same department.

The Anambra State Police Command today, August 10, 2026, announces the assumption of duty of CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, as the new Commissioner of Police in the State. CP Nnanna Oji Ama takes over the leadership of the Command following the retirement of the immediate past Commissioner of Police, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, before his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement issued by the Command's Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the new CP expressed his commitment to building upon the current security achievements in Anambra State. He emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among the police, other security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, youth, and women's groups.

CP Ama, a native of Ekata in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Jos. His extensive career in the Nigeria Police Force spans over three decades, covering intelligence, criminal investigation, tactical operations, administration, public relations, and strategic command. His prior appointments include Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, FCID Abuja, and Area Commander in Nnewi, Anambra State.
