New Head Found for Thuringia's Largest Authority

Johannes Blasius, a seasoned administrative lawyer from the State Chancellery, is set to take the helm of Thuringia's largest authority, the State Administration Office in Weimar, starting in September.

State Chancellery Minister Stefan Gruhner announced the appointment, noting that Blasius, born in 1967, currently leads the Central Department within the State Chancellery. Gruhner expressed confidence in Blasius, stating that he has demonstrated a commitment to efficient administration and swift procedures during his previous roles in the state's Finance, Justice, and Interior ministries.

This appointment marks the third attempt to fill the prestigious presidential position. Gruhner acknowledged the previous unsuccessful efforts but declined to comment on their specifics, instead highlighting Blasius as the State Chancellery's "most important civil servant" being assigned to lead the significant Weimar-based agency.

Blasius will officially succeed Frank Roßner, the long-serving incumbent, who is retiring. The process to find a successor had been challenging, with an initial favorite withdrawing unexpectedly and a subsequent candidate from a major social organization also not taking the role. The Thuringian State Administration Office holds significant responsibilities, including oversight of municipalities and handling matters related to migration and various other specialized fields.
