New Innovation Party leader rejects 'hostile M&A' merger with Democratic Party

Shin Jang-shik has been elected the new leader of the Innovation Party, immediately addressing the contentious issue of a potential merger with the Democratic Party. He firmly rejected what he described as a "hostile M&A-style" merger, stating that the basis for any alliance must be the restoration of the presidential election's spirit.

During his acceptance speech at the party's national convention in Suwon Convention Center, Shin recalled the Innovation Party's clear principles communicated when the merger talks began. He criticized the Democratic Party's actions, which he claimed included "backroom deal" rumors and McCarthy-like accusations, labeling them as anti-unification behavior that should not be repeated.

"Such outdated politics should never be repeated," Shin declared, emphasizing that a hostile M&A aimed solely at increasing market share cannot succeed. He stressed that the Innovation Party's DNA must be respected in any future political alignment.

Shin called for a path of horizontal solidarity and integration, where visions for the nation are intensely aligned. He urged the parties to fulfill the "Roundtable Conference - Public Square Solidarity Declaration" promised to the people during the presidential election campaign, advocating for a process that respects both parties' identities and fosters a shared vision for the country.
