New Longtan Transit Hub Signage Criticized as 'Photoshopped'; Officials Promise Improvements

Taoyuan City's new Longtan Transit Hub is nearing its early October opening, but its prominent "Longtan Transit Hub" signage has sparked public debate. Critics argue the lettering, particularly under certain lighting conditions and angles, resembles a "photoshopped" image, appearing indistinct and overly simplified. The transit hub, located near the Longtan Interchange, was constructed at a cost of NT$94 million on leased land. It serves as a temporary facility while a permanent station is planned over the next decade. The hub features one ground-level floor with six bus bays and three reserve bays, along with 123 motorcycle parking spaces. It aims to integrate city bus and intercity bus services, including seven intercity bus routes, 14 city bus routes, two free shuttle buses, and four "Tao Xiaoba" routes, catering to both commuters and tourists. Local councilor Liu Ying-lung expressed that while he respects the original design, the current lettering, with its columnar supports, makes the "Longtan Transit Hub" name less conspicuous and somewhat weak. He suggested that different font designs and color concepts could improve recognition. Liu also urged the transportation bureau to promptly install surrounding road signage to guide visitors and help the hub become a new landmark that showcases Longtan's local characteristics and boosts economic and tourism benefits. In response to the public's feedback, Zeng Chi-lun, head of the Parking Management Engineering Section of the Transportation Bureau, stated that the main construction is complete, and bus companies are currently fitting out their service counters and offices. He confirmed the early October opening and mentioned that existing bus routes and stops would be adjusted. Regarding the signage, Zeng acknowledged that the design intended to be simple and clear, but the bureau will consider all opinions and make relevant improvements to the lettering.
