The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new pancreatic cancer drug, 'Rasonque' (daratumumab), developed by Revolution Medicines. The approval, announced on August 26th local time, marks a significant milestone in treating one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Clinical trials indicate that Rasonque can reduce the risk of death for pancreatic cancer patients by 60%. Furthermore, the drug has demonstrated the ability to nearly double the average survival period for those undergoing treatment. This development offers new hope for patients facing a grim prognosis.

AP News reported that the FDA's decision represents "a milestone in conquering one of humanity's most lethal cancers." The drug targets the 'RAS' gene, which is responsible for initiating pancreatic, liver, and colon cancers, by shrinking and killing cancer cells.

Following FDA approval, Rasonque will be available by prescription in the United States. The cost for a one-month supply is set at approximately $39,800 (about 55 million Korean won). The drug's availability and pricing in South Korea will depend on future approvals and health insurance coverage decisions by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
