New 'Real-O-Mat' Tool Aids Voters for Saxony State Election

Voters in Saxony have a new digital tool to help them navigate the upcoming state election on September 6. Alongside the well-known "Wahl-O-Mat," the non-profit internet platform "FragDenStaat" has launched its own election aid, the "Real-O-Mat."

The key difference lies in their methodology. While the Wahl-O-Mat relies on parties' campaign promises and self-stated positions, the Real-O-Mat scrutinizes the actual voting records of elected officials. This approach provides voters with a data-driven perspective on where different parliamentary groups stand.

"FragDenStaat" made the Real-O-Mat available for the first time during the 2025 federal election. For the current state election, users can position themselves on 14 demands from the previous legislative period. The tool then reveals which factions voted similarly and explains the reasoning behind their positions, linking to relevant motions and debates for further review.

Meanwhile, the traditional Wahl-O-Mat has seen massive user engagement, with nearly 500,000 uses in its first week, significantly surpassing previous records. This tool helps users identify which party and program align with their views after evaluating 38 specific demands.
