New Season of 'Watzmann ermittelt' Filming Underway, Giebel Returns as Beissl

Fans of the ARD crime series "Watzmann ermittelt" can rejoice as filming for twelve new episodes of the eighth season is underway. Set in and around Berchtesgaden, the production commenced in mid-June.

Andreas Giebel returns as Commissioner Benedikt Beissl, who, according to the broadcaster, finds himself in mortal danger during an operation, sustaining a gunshot wound. Despite his injuries, he continues to contribute to investigations from his hospital bed.

Good news for the Watzmann fans: The filming for twelve new episodes of the eighth season of the ARD pre-evening series "Watzmann ermittelt" are running.

The new season promises significant changes, introducing new colleagues for Beissl's partners Jerry Paulsen (Peter Marton) and Sophia Strasser (Katharina Leonore Goebel). Commissioner Dr. Kira Cortesi (Aglaia Szyszkowitz) joins the team, making a professional comeback in Berchtesgaden after a separation and a family break in Italy. Additionally, new police officer Lukas Huber (Arne Kübler) will bolster the force. The season will also see Jerry Paulsen become a father, with the birth of his daughter Mia, and a family reunion during her baptism.

The investigators will face a diverse range of mysterious cases. These include incidents involving a forester and influencer, shady dealings at a beauty clinic, and a focus on the local heritage museum. The death of a dedicated trail runner and the puzzling disappearance of a foster child will keep the commissioners busy. Tensions also rise around a new bobsled run in Berchtesgaden following the murder of an environmental activist. The team is even called to a crime film set due to a murder case.

While a broadcast date for the new season has not yet been set, the previous seasons (6 and 7) attracted an average of 3.12 million viewers per episode between January and April. The series continues to be a popular fixture in ARD's early evening programming.
