New Taipei City Health Center Opening Delayed to November Amid Vaccine Season

New Taipei City Councilor Huang Shu-chun has called for the expedited opening of the new Banqiao Health Center and the associated Mental Health Center, citing concerns over the project's timeline. With New Taipei City's population exceeding 4.03 million as of July 2026, the development of healthcare facilities is a priority.

Huang inspected the progress of the new health center, located in a building adjacent to a new hotel on Zhongshan Road. She believes the projected September opening is unachievable, given the renovation and relocation tasks still pending. Furthermore, she pointed out that the entrance to the new Mental Health Center is poorly marked and difficult to find, urging the Health Bureau and the MRT Engineering Bureau to improve signage, especially from the Banqiao MRT station.

The relocation will be delayed, but opening in November is not a problem.

Chen Run-chiu, Director of the Health Bureau, responded that the renovations are expected to conclude around September or October. He acknowledged that the subsequent flu vaccine season, which begins in October, would necessitate a delay in the relocation process to ensure sufficient staffing for vaccination efforts. Chen assured that the new health center would open in November and begin providing services by December.

In addition to the Banqiao facility, New Taipei City is advancing other medical construction projects. These include the Ruifang Medical and Long-term Care Building, slated for completion in 2028, and the planned Yingge Health and Medical Care Park, which will feature a smart health center, a multi-specialty outpatient clinic, and a comprehensive long-term care institution. The city is also planning a third medical building for the Municipal United Hospital, which will focus on cancer treatment, early intervention services, health check-ups, and dialysis.
