New Taipei City Mayor: 230 Firms Affected by Undisclosed Oil Scandal

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih confirmed that 230 downstream manufacturers in the city have been affected by a food safety scandal involving Zhonglian Oil. The Ministry of Health and Welfare previously stated that the company failed to report a batch of oil produced on April 1.

Mayor Hou emphasized that the city government launched an investigation immediately upon learning of the issue. He vowed to condemn and strictly investigate any entities found to have concealed information about the problematic oil, stating that such issues must not recur. He urged the Food and Drug Administration to provide complete clarification to ensure public confidence in food safety.
