New Taipei volunteer families pack mooncakes and share Mid-Autumn warmth

Families in New Taipei marked the approaching Mid-Autumn Festival by folding mooncake boxes alongside people who work in disability services. The one-day activity took place at the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders’ Ai Bu Luo Suo logistics center in Sanchong.

The city’s Volunteer Service Promotion Center organized the event with the Lily Volunteer Service Association and the foundation. Parents and children first learned about the center’s services before assembling the boxes and packing the mooncakes. Together, they completed 468 boxes.

I originally thought folding the boxes would be easy, but once I tried it, I realized that every step required patience and concentration. It was really difficult.

The folding looked simple, but participants found that each crease and locking tab required patience and concentration. One student who joined his mother said the work helped him understand that employment for people with disabilities involves more than completing tasks. It can also help build confidence and support participation in society.

Lin Cheng-hsia, chairman of the Taiwan Foundation for Rare Disorders, said Ai Bu Luo Suo provides employment opportunities and professional training for people with disabilities. Volunteer mother Fen-yuan said bringing children to the activity allowed them to see different life experiences and understand that, with suitable support and an appropriate environment, everyone can contribute value to society.
