New team Breakers stun favorites Hugeness for first PBA Team League win

The newly formed Breakers team achieved their first victory in the PBA Team League, stunning favored opponent Hugeness with a decisive 4-0 sweep. The opening day of the "Welcome Savings Bank PBA Team League Gwangmyeong City Tour 2026-2027" saw the Breakers, led by captain Lee Seung-jin, dominate Hugeness at the Gwangmyeong Citizen Gymnasium.

Experts had predicted an uphill battle for the Breakers, a team assembled after the draft, against Hugeness, which had bolstered its roster with players like Kang Dong-gun and Ngo Dinh Nai. However, the unpredictable nature of billiards proved true once again.

The Breakers set the tone early. In the first set, Oh Sung-wook and Antonio Montes defeated Robinson Morales and Ngo. The second set saw Im Kyung-jin and Hida take the women's doubles match 9-5. Oh Sung-wook then secured a crucial win in the third set's men's singles, beating Kang Dong-gun 15-9 in just six innings, foreshadowing the team's victory. Montes and Kim Da-hee sealed the match in the fourth set's mixed doubles, winning 9-4.

"I didn't expect to win," said team leader Lee Seung-jin after the match. "We wanted to show everyone what kind of team we are, and I'm happy we could win like this." In other matches, last season's champion Hana Card defeated Welcome Savings Bank 4-3, and Crown Haitai edged out Woori Financial Capital 4-3. High1 Resort, considered a championship contender after acquiring Eddie Leppens and Kang Ji-eun, lost to NH Nonghyup Card, while Harim, led by Kim Young-won and Tran Duc Minh, secured their first win against S& after a full-set battle.
