New York launches commemorative license plate for 250th anniversary, available to all residents regardless of status

New York is celebrating the United States' 250th anniversary with a special commemorative license plate for 2026. The design, unveiled on June 16 at Peebles Island State Park, features a map of the U.S. and the words "United States of America 250." This initiative aims to join the national July 4th festivities.

Any passenger vehicle registered in New York state is eligible to receive this new plate. Notably, the state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has made it accessible to individuals regardless of their immigration status, a significant move for undocumented residents in the state.

The DMV has also highlighted that other states with significant Hispanic populations are offering their own anniversary plates. This commemorative plate is officially launched for 2026, adding a unique touch to vehicles across New York as the nation approaches its milestone anniversary.
