Neymar receives CONMEBOL warning after fan interaction during Copa Sudamericana match

Brazilian star Neymar has received a warning from the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) following a Copa Sudamericana match. Santos, Neymar's club, secured a 4-2 victory over Universidad Central in a game that also saw a pitch invasion. The confederation cited Neymar for infringing Article 11.2 (c) of its Disciplinary Code, which pertains to the minimum standards of behavior expected from participants in its competitions.

While CONMEBOL's resolution did not explicitly detail Neymar's specific action that led to the warning, the incident occurred shortly after a fan entered the field and approached the player, who stopped to take a photograph with the supporter. This occurred during the same match for which Santos faced penalties.

The Brazilian club was fined a total of $33,000. This includes a $20,000 penalty for violating Article 12.2 (a) concerning pitch invasions and an additional $10,000 and $3,000 for breaches related to press obligations. Both Santos and Neymar were explicitly warned that further infractions of a similar nature could lead to more severe consequences under Article 27 of the Disciplinary Code, which addresses repeat offenses.
