NGF, R&A Foundation to Train Nigerian Golf Coaches

The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) and the R&A Foundation have launched a partnership aimed at enhancing professional golf coaching in Nigeria through international training and capacity development. This initiative marks a significant step in elevating the sport's standards within the country.

As part of the collaboration, Nigeria's certified PGA professional, Mark Oseni, is set to attend PGA Levels 1 and 2 coaching courses in South Africa this July. The R&A Foundation, the charitable arm of The R&A dedicated to global golf participation and coach education, is facilitating this program as part of its worldwide commitment to growing the sport.

Upon completing his courses, Oseni will be equipped with internationally recognized coaching qualifications and modern teaching techniques. He is expected to play a crucial role in improving coaching standards nationwide by training other PGA professionals across Nigeria. This program is also designed to bolster grassroots golf development and support efforts to cultivate more competitive Nigerian players.

NGF President Otunba Olusegun Runsewe hailed the partnership as a milestone for golf development in Nigeria, emphasizing its role in building local capacity and fostering sustainable growth. He noted that the NGF is investing in coach education to lay a solid foundation for future champions and reduce reliance on foreign expertise. Runsewe highlighted that Oseni's training will have a multiplier effect, with the acquired knowledge shared among professionals for wider benefit. He commended the R&A Foundation for its strategic investment in human capital, aligning with the NGF's vision to make golf more accessible, competitive, and professionally managed.
