Nha Trang food poisoning: Two bánh mì shops fined for safety violations

Authorities in Khánh Hòa province have taken action against two bánh mì businesses in Nha Trang following reports of food poisoning incidents.

The establishments, Bánh mì chảo Cô Hồng and Bánh mì Đồng Mẫn, were fined for violating food safety regulations. The investigation aimed to clarify information circulating on social media regarding alleged food poisoning cases linked to these businesses.

Bánh mì chảo Cô Hồng was fined 2 million VND for failing to maintain hygienic standards in its food preparation equipment. However, the provincial Department of Health stated that investigations did not support claims of food poisoning originating from this specific establishment. The owner, identified as V.T.S. from Tây Nha Trang ward, was instructed to halt operations until all issues are rectified.

In a more significant penalty, Bánh mì Đồng Mẫn was fined 14 million VND. This eatery faced multiple violations, including not adhering to a three-step food inspection process, failing to store food samples as required by regulations, and its staff not wearing face masks while handling food. Additionally, waste collection bins were not provided in the food preparation area.

Following the inspection, Đồng Mẫn I was ordered to cease its food service operations. The owner also voluntarily closed two other related businesses in Nam Nha Trang ward. The authorities mandated that the establishment remain closed from July 20 to cooperate with the investigation, rectify all deficiencies, cover medical expenses for affected individuals if any, and only resume operations after meeting all food safety requirements.
