Nick Reiner Indicted on Murder Charges in Parents' Killings

Nick Reiner has been indicted on murder charges in the killings of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, who were found dead in their Brentwood home last year. Reiner pleaded not guilty Wednesday to two counts of murder, with special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. He also faces a special allegation for personally using a knife.

"This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing," District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. "The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice."

The couple, Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were discovered dead in their home on December 14 by their daughter, Romy Reiner. The LA County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries. Rob Reiner was a celebrated actor and director known for iconic films like "The Princess Bride" and "When Harry Met Sally…," while Michele Reiner was a photographer. The night before their deaths, Rob and Nick Reiner reportedly had a loud argument at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien.

If convicted, Nick Reiner faces the possibility of death or life in state prison without parole. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty. He is currently in custody with no bail, and his pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 15. The couple also had another son, Jake.
