Nicklas Nielsen secures another Danish victory in Texas

Nicklas Nielsen delivered one of the biggest results of the year in Danish motorsport by winning Sunday’s six-hour race in Austin, Texas.

Driving Ferrari’s No. 50 car with Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina, Nielsen triumphed in the top Hypercar class. It was the car’s first victory of the season in the World Endurance Championship, secured dramatically when the leading Toyota ran into trouble shortly before the finish.

“We did not think we would end up winning. We had actually prepared ourselves for second place, but we kept fighting our way forward. Of course, we were a little lucky that Toyota had problems at the end, but we also drove a fantastic race,” Nielsen said, according to Eurosport.

Kevin Magnussen had a less impressive day in his BMW and finished ninth. The former Formula One driver had moved himself and BMW up the overall standings after winning the previous race in São Paulo in July.

Toyota leads BMW and Ferrari in the championship with three races remaining. Nielsen and Magnussen each have 54 points, placing them sixth and seventh respectively.
